I have read A Course Called Ireland and A course Called Scotland, excellent books. I have played in Ireland, N Ireland, and Scotland, its like Heaven over there playing. If you get the chance, do it, it's definitely worth it.

I echo Robert J's comments. i've also played in Ireland and Scotland, and can't wait for all the covid BS to stop so we can travel again. Seaside links golf is a challenge and fun. A plus is you don't have to break the bank between greens fees, places to stay, etc.. I priced going to Bandon Dunes and a week's excursion to go there would be more than we spent in 10 days in Scotland. Plus, there's sightseeing, pubs to visit, and the people are wonderful. Not that you can't find nice folks here in the States, just saying.

Well now I am convinced I need to go play Scotland and Ireland. I played Bandon Dunes and loved it but it crushed the bank account. I brought my 2 sons along and we played 2 rounds a day for 4 days straight. We pulled the carts and just completely enjoyed our time together which was great since its so hard to find time with them these days. The green fee bill each day was $1800 which is in one word "crazy". But if you stick to the mind set "if you don't mind it doesn't matter". Cheers!

The book is amazing and you can find some real hidden gems in there. I am reading his scotland book now and will see if it matches to my visits to Scotland for golf.

The Scotland book is next on my list. It was interesting to read that in Scotland and Ireland all courses are open to play if you are willing to pay. In America most of the private courses are closed to outside plan and you must know a member to get access or you will never get the chance. Some courses are just closed to outside play period. Kinda sad actually but I understand. If a club does not really need outside money for operations then why bother with outside play. That was the only deflating part of the book A Course Called America. The rest was fun!

Yes it sucks but people don't want the general public at their courses

Tom will be in Charleston, SC at the Charleston Music Hall on December 1st to discuss his exploits. It costs $35 to attend and it will entitle everyone in attendance a copy of his book "A Course Called America".

Thanks for the info. I'll be at Harbor Town playing in late December but don't think I can make the Charleston event. It would probably be fun to hear him speak and tell some of his latest stories. He is a great story teller!
