Why do golf balls have dimples? Dimples are what make the golf ball fly, and they come in a variety of depths, shapes, patterns and edge angles that engineers use to create different flight characteristics and optimize trajectory.

And what do dimples on a golf ball do? The dimples create a turbulent flow so that air hits the front edge of the golf ball and the dimples energize that air which reduces the drag force.

The fun part is watch a pro hit golf balls in person. Love it when one shows up at one of our TT invitationals and does a demostration. It put things in perspective and gets a lot of laughts. Hope to see it again one day at an event. Thanks Mike. Hakuna matata.
