Hey Team Titleist.
Last week’s winner on the Korn Ferry Tour – Hayden Buckley, who went from first-alternate early Thursday morning to trophy-lifter Sunday evening – just sent us a video message that we wanted to share with everyone.
If you haven’t read about how Hayden’s week – and win – unfolded, here are the highlights:
- Hayden, playing in his rookie season on the KFT, hit the range around 6 a.m. on Thursday without a tee time in the event. He was first alternate.
- He was on the putting green at Florida’s Lakewood National Golf Club right around 7:00 a.m. when he got word that he was in – and his Round 1 tee time was in less than 20 minutes (7:17 a.m.).
- Hayden hurried back to the driving range and hit 10 more balls before heading to the first and teeing up his Pro V1. He went on to make three birdies and 15 pars for an opening 3-under 68. He followed with rounds of 65-68-70 to make the playoff, making birdie on the first hole of sudden-death to earn his first KFT win.
- It was a fitting first win, to be sure: Hayden played on the Mackenzie Tour-PGA TOUR Canada in 2019 after four years on the golf team at the University of Missouri, where he started as a walk-on and graduated with the program’s lowest scoring average.
