Does anyone else prefer to play the game alone occasionally? I love playing with others, but golf is also the perfect game for solitary play because it doesn't require teammates. My own preference for playing alone (when I was on the east coast) was usually late in the fall, after most of the crowds were gone. I liked to go out late in the afternoon on a crisp day, mid-week, as the shadows were getting long through the trees. It was a nice time to contemplate life, and get outside before the long, dreary winter set in. I usually had no one behind me, or ahead of me. I often thought about my dad, who passed away in 2002. He introduced us to the game of golf, and though he really didn't play himself, he instilled in me a love for it that l maintain to this day. In fact, he gave me my first set of Titleists when I finished graduate school. And though he didn't play, he would often walk the course with me when I visited, watching me play and talking about everything and anything. Good memories, all.
