I've found that Birdieball makes a great putting mat. They are some standard offerings or you can go the custom route and design it to a size and speed you want.

Take a look at the Pro Advanced Pro Infinity putting mat, they're about £100 if that's within your budget.

You can change the speed of the putting surface and place wedges along it to replicate breaks in the green.

I have a Synlawn portable putting green, the texture has a really good feel to it.

I believe Scott S is right. I have an 8 x 3 Synlawn putting matt. Have had others but this is by far the best yet. Depending on the size of the area you have, I am sure Synlawn is a good option.

I have a BirdieBall. Was very affordable (bought on sale).

I use the cheap and cheerful puttout mat with the pressure putt training cup.

I have had a Big Moss and a Birdieball. Both are great, but very different. The Big Moss has a slightly elevated cup (not realistic).

The BIrdieball is literally a piece of foam. However, it rolls true and is very much like a real green. Birdieball used to frequently run sales (50% off, free upgrades to larger mats, etc.). Im not sure if they still do.

The Big Moss I had was 12' X 6'. I eventually sold it to a coworker (it was a hassle to get it out because of the size and I didn't have a place to keep it out permanently.

The Birdieball is very lightweight and came with a storage bag (I have the 4'X9'. It is very easy to store.

All in all, I preferred the Big Moss. But the BIrdieball is a more than viable option (it was 1/5 the price of the Big Moss).

Big moss greens make some great options! Roll the rock!

I have a standard big moss putting green, the material is better than ones you see at sporting goods / pro shop.

I practice putting about 3 times a week at home with it, and I think it helps me to improve on my putting strokes.

I've had the birdieball that I've used for 7 years now when the weather is not good. It's economical and yes you can chose a speed, size, and where you'd like the hole cut.

Birdieball mat here. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of room in my house for a big mat, but I got a little 3x8ft mat at medium (10-11 on stimp) speed, which is usually close to what my home course runs at in season. I've been very happy with it and as far as I can tell it runs exactly at advertised speed. I can roll it up for easy storage, and with the rubber pieces on the ends helping to hold it down, doesn't take long to flatten out to roll putts again.

I’ve got a birdie ball and agree with the general sentiments. I will add that it is very delicate so if you have pets, kids or a wife wearing shoes nearby, beware of scratches and little blemish holes. There is also no automatic ball return. Other than that I would recommend it, especially for the price.
