    We've all found ourselves facing this very question on the course... Lay up or Go for it? Are you someone's who's always going for it, never laying up, no matter the situation? Do you tend to take a more conservative approach and play to a number, setting up your next shot? Or does it always depend on the situation?     Last season, I definitely played more conservative in those situations and opted to lay up to a number about 80% of the time. This season, my plan is to always go for it and take a more aggressive approach to the game. We'll see how this shakes out, and it will definitely be a fun experiment.

    Depends on how I'm hitting the ball that day. Most of the time going for it. Can never get enough Birdie or Eagle chances.

    My first thought is.... Where it the pin! While waiting for others to hit, I will exhaust all my "I can make that shot" thoughts, before I figure out that is not an option, or the smart play. But I'll thread that needle or carry that hazard if given the chance. But hey!... That's just me.

    If at a familiar venue where I understand reward risk and know the distances really well I am going for it. If not I will layup unless the only way I can win is go for it. I have a playing partner who's motto is " I didn't drive out here to layup" great motto if you didn't count strokes. Needless to say I beat him more than not. Lol!

    "...great motto if you don't count strokes." Eyup.

    An alternative for me is: "I didn't drive out here to shoot in the 100s."

    My dad always said "God hates a coward". I'll go for it most times if I can reach the green, except for needing to carry a hazard into the wind, or need to carry a water hazard that's fronting the green.

    On my home course at the Jersey Shore, it all depends on the wind that day. If It's against you, your just not going to make it. No wind,or wind with me, I'm going for it. Great post!

    Always go for it the shorter distance to the green seems to be an higher percentage shot than further away if I do end up missing the green. I also don’t mind playing out of a bunker.

    I'm committed this season to an experiment in aggression. I'm going to play five straight rounds where it's birdie or bust. A par will be no better than a triple-bogey or quad. I'm going to aim at every flag and punch myself if I leave any putts short. Then I'm going to play five straight rounds with a "smart" mindset and I'm going to compare the results, not solely by score, but also by how enjoyable or frustrating each strategy is. The ideal approach will lie somewhere in the middle, but I suspect it will be much closer to Roy McAvoy than David Simms.

    I tend to "Go for it" over the conservative approach. When I was being taught to play that was something my dad instilled. I do occasionally lay up or hit less than driver off the tee. But the majority of the time it's "Hit it"

    In “the good old days” when I was young and could play a little bit, it was “no guts no glory”!! Now every shot counts and I try not to waste any! I’m not sure if that means I’m any smarter or just know my limitations!

    I'm fairly conservative in my play but started forcing myself to be more aggressive to try and post some lower scores. It generally worked.

    Normal play, I am always conservative but in a scramble I always try for the near impossible.

    I'm usually fairly conservative and tend to play the high percentage shots, but this fall I started to go all-in more often with my success rate being approximately 50%. These fall rounds were all for fun, so it's easier to go for it when there's no real downside. Once spring comes around and I'm back playing matches with meaning, then I'm sure mr. conservative will show back up.

    Different holes call for different strategy! How far a carry, and wind etc.
    Plus, is the ProV-1 brand new?

    Confidence is required plus the ability to see the shot with your intuitive mind. If you have those 2 things on this day go for it!

    Whenever possible, go for broke. If Arnie hadn’t, golf would only be 1/10th as big as it is today.

    For me it depends on how I'm playing that round. If bad and score doesn't matter, then I go for it. If I'm playing well and it's a 50/50 shot I will try to play for position.

    It completely depends on the situation. I never go for it if I have to hit a low percentage shot. I can recover from bogies but doubles and others can kill your score. At the end of the day it’s all about the score. There are a lot of ways to shoot a low score and you don’t have to draw pictures on the scorecard. I play with a lot of guys that are longer than me and I regularly beat them.

    I’m left-handed - WWPD? ( as in Phil M). Although I do make some allowances for strength and distance.
