Growing up and living at the Jersey Shore has been a blast. Beautiful beaches, claiming, and fishing, not to mention the great golf. I also have been lucky enough to work at the same golf course for the past 22 years, where I am the supervisor. Two days ago, I had to have surgery on my leg for skin cancer. No work for 2 weeks, and no golf for a month. To all my fellow TT family, PLEASE WEAR SUNSCREEN! Don't want anyone to miss out on a day at the links. Play Well, Steve S.

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation, hopefully, you'll heal soon and be right back out there.

My father succumbed to skin cancer just over 10 years ago which was brought on by complications from diabetes, so your post rings very true to me. Good advice as always to wear sunscreen each time we golfers are out there.

Good advice. See a lot of older golfers in my area (Charleston, SC) with lots of scars on arms, ears and face. Also, always wear a hat or cap and see your dermatologist annually.

Excellent advice, Steve. Even on cloudy days ones can do damage to your skin. Sun block needs to be a must any time one is out golfing.

Sorry to hear about jthis but great advice, I have very sensitive skin when it comes to the sun and have to but sunscreen on every 5 holes or so just to keep safe!

I have dealt with skin cancer since 1999. It is serious business. I have had 19 basal cell cancers surgically removed, all but one on my face. My first one appeared when I was 56 years old. I was shocked. If the sun was out I was in it. Sun block, pants, long sleeve shirt and large sun hat is what I am forced to wear when I am out in the sun and even on overcast days. I agree with Chuck Z, make an appointment with your dermatologist to establish a baseline.

Hello Jam. This is just the start for me as well. I've had quite a few spots removed already and plenty more to go. The rest aren't as bad, but still have to be removed. I'll be covering up and putting on the Sunscreen!
    Play Well,

  8. I’m from PA, But spend my summers and some other weeks throughout the year in South Jersey (wildwood). Curious what course you work at ? My favorite courses here are Atlantic Country Club and Shore Gate Golf Club

Hello Quinn, I'm at Ocean Co. G.C. @ Atlantis. A county owned course in the southern most part of Ocean County. If your ever in the area, PLEASE look me up.
    Play Well,
    Steve S.
  10. I’ll be there a lot this summer. I’d love to meet a TT friend !
  11. Apply the sun screen just before the first tee and at the turn. Most are only effective for 2-3 hours, then reapply.

When I lived in NY I never thought about it much even though I worked outside all my life. But now down here in FL it's Neutragena Beach Defense 70 SPF and an annual visit to the Dermatologist.
