Topping the ball often involves a swing mechanic issue of “chicken winging”. Your lead arm bends to reduce the arc of your swing, so the club is raised. It could be a simple technique change in your swing or if you aren’t getting enough weight transfer to your lead side.
What worked for any of us might solve your problem. The better solution is to find a coach to see your swing and offer adjustments and ways to train to the improved mechanics.

It's best to see an instructor who can help you break down why you are topping the ball. For awhile I used to think I was topping the ball because I wasn't getting the clubhead back down to the correct impact position, and a quick visit to an instructor proved actually I was releasing too early. I know instructors can be expensive, but it can save a lot of frustration from trying to figure it out yourself.

Depends on what part (s) of the swing sequence are causing you trouble. A typical go to for me has always been a slow motion drill with a tee or coin to represent the ball, but if your fundamentals are deficient, it will only ingrain a bad even further. The real solution lies in seeking a PGA Professional in your area that can guide you in the right direction. If you’re hell bent on making better contact before professional instruction, then get good at “Jon Rahm swings”. Practice taking the club back no farther than shoulder height and hitting the ball from there. This will take a lot of extra movements out of the equation and allow you to focus on delivery. You’ll lose a bit of distance at first, but not as much as you may think. Once your strike pattern has improved, work with an instructor to develop back into a traditional “full swing” that works with your delivery.
