I have very bad osteoarthritis in my hands and it is difficult to find grips big enough to relieve the pain. I would Titleist to work on making big oversized grips for people like me. Tennis was always my sport but I’ve had to give it up for being a duffer. Tennis rackets always had 1/2” to 3/4” grips and you could tape them even larger. Golf should get with it.

  2. Bob,
Have you tried the MCC + 4 Grip by Golf Pride? It provides superb traction, which I find requires less grip tension through the swing. It has a larger lower hand grip and less taper than standard grips. I would suggest getting the mid size (largest that Golf Pride offers in this grip), with 2 or 3 wraps of tape. Any shop can do this setup for you.

My great aunt has bad osteoarthritis. A remedy she swears by...
Soak yellow raisins in Gin for two weeks, then take 10 raisins a day. My great aunt has done this for years, and swears up and down that it has helped out in a big way! If all else fails toss the raisins and drink the gin....

    Hi Sam!

I appreciate your response. I'll look into those grips. The raisins and gin I have tried before and it didn't work. Acupuncture has actually helped more.

One suggestion be to try Winn grips in the '7' (oversize) version. In addition to being larger in diameter (oversize), these particular grips are somewhat 'cushiony' to soften the impact stresses.

I have started to get more and more arthritis pain in recent years and switched to the MCC+4 grips last year. It has helped at this point but I'm not sure if it will be a remedy down the road. I know that manufacturers make jumbo sized grips even larger than the mid-size that I use now.

  6. Good to hear you are at least getting some relief! Best of luck with the grips.
  7. I would also suggest the mid size MCC +4 with the less taper of the grip it will help your bottom hand not grip as hard and when you get them installed you can also add a few layers of tape to build the grip to little bit bigger size.

You may want to buy a couple Enlow grips and give them a try. I have a customer with a severe case of arthritis in both hands. Put them on for him and they stopped almost all of his pain after a round. They may take a little time to adjust, but, will surely help if closing your fingers causes discomfort.

I have not been a fan of Golf Pride grips having preferred Lamkin Cord grips for over forty years, however, last year I looked at the MCC Plus 4 grip and liked it- really relaxes the hands and has certainly helped relieve the pain from arthritis- going with the midsize and whatever extra tape is appropriate I would highly recommend. The Enlow grips also sound worth looking into if conventional tapered and/or Reduced taper grips don't provide the relief you need.
