    Hi All

    I am an average golfer like many here and trying to get better. Did lessons all winter and found key points to work on As a result my game this year has been from a 11.6 to a 9.2. (currently 9.6)

    I have learned that yardages are ever imperative. I use 2 devices. 1) Golf Canada iPhone GPS (love it for stats) however the GPS is what it is and 2) older Bushnell non slope laser (very accurate)

    I finished the club championship last weekend and the guys I played with use BOTH GPS and laser. I noticed a lot of folks use the Bushnell Phantom which is cool because it is pretty plain and simple. Swipe to the left gives you layups and trouble distances and swipe to the right enables you to move the flag. I wish to get a "simple" GPS that has more features than GC

    Anyone have any opinions on this device? I do still use my older Bushnell 100% of time but having more data is great

    I am not open to iPhone apps because I find it hard to shut off my mind in a round and want to keep as focused as possible I leave the phone on but too much information can really overload me. I hope this makes sense....

    I carry a laser rangefinder for courses when my GPS might not contain the course or it has been recently renovated. I use my older Bushnell neo most of the time where I can get front, middle, back yardages. I am a bit “old school” in that I use the yardages for a starting point but always factor in other information like weather, biggest trouble location, how well I am hitting the ball that day, etc. to guide me into club selection. For me, it’s still more of an art than a science.

    How true Dale... It is great to know the actual distance but like you said there is much more that goes into the decision. The most important part that many forget to add is your comment on how well you are hitting it that day. No equipment will calculate that :) I use a laser for key distances and my Garmin G6 (which is an old model) as it has pretty much every course in it and allows me to track stats such as fairways hit, GIR, total putts, and scores for our foursome...

    I use the Bushnell Tour laser rangefinder. Like Dale I try to factor in the weather and my own ball striking to decide on the club. Club selection is an art. Keep working Daniel and you will be rewarded.

    Been running the Bushnell Tour V5 for the last few years. It’s been great and accurate every single time. Something about knowing the exact distance every time just clicks with my game. However now that I’ve been more serious on my game I’ve switched to the Bushnell Tour V6 Shift with the slope. Crazy how it’s a night and day difference for me and has been a huge game improver.

    I did try out a few of the Garmin watches and just couldn’t vibe with the rough distance amount. My brain and my OCD just needs to know the exact. I did however enjoy the views of everything on the watch

    I use a Garmin Z82 and it's helped me a lot as its a rangefinder and has a built in GPS with course layout in the screen.

    Since getting it I am able to hit more greens as it shows the cover distances of bunkers, front and back of the green, and accurate distances to the pin.

    I find for my home course I typically only use the laser. Just based on knowing it, I rarely use the GPS unless for example I am in a very odd spot, trying to determine layup or "go for it" numbers which the laser may not have (especially during scrambles when hitting shots I would rarely hit in a regular round).
    However when playing an "away course" I typically use both. GPS for off the tee to see where my landing areas and/or trouble may be, and laser when hitting approaches into the green.

    Use a garmin S2 watch and bushnell. Great to have the watch for wayward shots and front of green? where pin is. Bushnell can confirm if say pin is over a middle ridge that is past true middle on watch. Best of both worlds and speeds up pace of play.
