My original Scotty Cameron Putter grip gave up the ghost and I took the opportunity to change over to a SS fat grip instead of the original Pistol Grip style. It worked great for a long time, but then I started to have issues with my putting and of course, it could not be me - so I replaced the grip with a slimmer SS grip. It helped a bit, but it never really felt right. The heavier fat grip just seemed to change the overall feeling of the putter and made my stroke feel manipulated instead of free... So - Today I changed my grip back to a pistol grip. It feels like a brand new putter and has great balance and swing weight. Right back to how it was when I first purchased my Scotty !!! I guess there is a reason why the Scottty Camerons come with the pistol grip in the first place... Looking forward to getting it back in play to see my scores drop.

Darius, sounds like you have it dialed in. Great! Having so many different putter grip options does allow everyone to find what works best for them. Nothing more important than the connection of the hands to the golf club.

Scotty and png both recommend pistol style grips. They don't care if it's regular or midsize, just as long as it's a pistol style grip. As a matter of fact, if you go on png's website, they have a bunch of charts showing why a pistol grip is better than a straight putter grip.

Sorry to sound argumentative. So why would so many people change if there are charts on websites that say a pistol grip is better? Maybe it's because actual feel and performance varies from person to person and it really isn't a "one size fits all" world out there. I would suggest the if pistol works for you, great and if straight works for you, great. This game is hard enough as it is, not to play with what gives you confidence. Tiger has made a great case for the pistol and until lately, Jordan had made a great case for the straight grip. All that really matters is the one each of us puts in our own bag. :)
  5. Hey Darius,

I have followed the exact same path myself, nothing feels better and more consistent then a classic pistol grip!
