After the third week of the 2019-2020 PGA TOUR season, and as we enter the Fall golf season, the winning momentum continues for players trusting their games to Titleist. In the U.S.A., Scotland, South Africa and Japan, players relying on Titleist golf balls and golf clubs entered the Winner's Circle at five tournaments this week across the worldwide professional golf tours, bringing the win count up to 18 for the month of September, and 157 during 2019. 

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

•  For the third consecutive week to start the new PGA TOUR season, more than 70 percent of all players teed up a Titleist. At the Safeway Open, 104 players (72%) in the field of 144 played a Pro V1 or Pro V1x, which is nearly seven times the nearest competitor with 15. This week’s roster also included another high profile player who chose to play a Titleist golf ball without an agreement.

• In Japan, Titleist Brand Ambassador Toshinori Muto (Pro V1x) fired consecutive 64's on the weekend to win the Panasonic Open. It marked Muto’s 7th victory of his 17-year-career on the Japan Tour. Seven of the 11 players who finished among the top 10 (and ties) relied upon Titleist for their success.

• In Scotland, Victor Perez (Pro V1) claimed his maiden European Tour title, becoming the first rookie to win the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews Old Course. Perez finished with a 22-under 266 victory total, one clear of Titleist Brand Ambassador and playing partner Matthew Southgate.

• Mi Jung Hur (Pro V1), who won the Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open last month, earned her fourth career LPGA Tour title in wire-to-wire fashion at the Indy Women in Tech Championship. She finished four shots clear of runner-up Nanna Koerstz Madsen (Pro V1x). Marina Alex (Pro V1) finished in 3rd place, two shots behind Madsen. In fact, 10 of the 11 players who finished among the top 10 (and ties) relied upon Titleist for their success.

• The first-ever all Pro V1 Yellow Playoff: Kirk Triplett (Pro V1 Yellow) captured the Pure Insurance Championship at Pebble Beach on the PGA TOUR Champions for the third time (2012, 2013) Sunday, topping Billy Andrade with an 8-foot birdie putt on the first hole of a sudden death playoff.

• And in South Africa, Merrick Bremner (Pro V1x) finished five strokes clear of the field to claim the Vodacom Origins Humewood, firing a bogey-free 19-under victory total. Ruan Conradie (Pro V1) and Jonathan Agren (Pro V1) were among three players who tied for 2nd.

New Driver Setup for Adam Scott

Entering the new PGA TOUR season, many players are beginning to experiment with new equipment, evaluating prospective changes to their bags for 2019-2020. 

This week, Adam Scott made a pre-tournament driver switch after playing a practice round with Nick Watney earlier in the week.

According to Titleist Tour Rep J.J. VanWezenbeeck, Adam saw Watney's Titleist TS3 driver with 11.5 degrees of loft during a practice round and liked the look and performance of it so much that he asked to have one made up exactly like Nick's, right down to its B1 Titleist SureFit setting.

Scott, who gamed a TS3 with 9.5 degrees of loft at the TOUR Championship, the last time he played competitively, put the new TS3 11.5* driver — with the same Graphite Design Tour AD DI 8 shaft that he had in his previous driver — right into play on Thursday and co-led with a 7-under 65. Scott posted a first round Driving Distance average of 323.4 yards. 

Watney, who has been playing the TS3 with 11.5 degrees of loft since switching to a Titleist driver at the 2019 Desert Classic, finished tied for 10th, while Scott finished T-17 at Safeway. There were only three players at the Safeway Open playing drivers with 11.5* of loft or more - and Adam Scott and Nick Watney were two of them.

New Irons for Thomas and Cantlay

Also on the equipment front, world Nos. 6 and 7, Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay, respectively, put new Titleist irons into play at this week's Safeway Open. 

Thomas, who put a T100 4-iron into his bag the first week it was available at the U.S. Open, worked with the remainder of his iron set during his off-season. Thomas moved into the new 620 MB irons (5-9) at the Safeway Open, replacing the 718 MB's that he played for the last two years.

Thomas also replaced his Vokey Design SM6 lob wedge with a new prototype 60T this week. The new lob wedge completes the SM7 set of pitching (46.10F), gap (52.12F) and sand (56.14F) wedges. 

Thomas tied for 4th at Safeway, four shots behind the winner.

Like Thomas, Cantlay worked new Titleist T100 (4-P) irons into his bag during the off season. His new irons feature Dynamic Gold 120 shafts, a change from his previous True Temper XP 115's.

Not one to switch equipment often, in addition to the new irons, Cantlay also gamed a new TS3 driver — 10.5 degrees with a Mitsubishi Diamana BF60 shaft — and also switched to a BF70 shaft in his 3-wood.

Cantlay also added two new SM7’s, completing his wedge set to all Vokey Design SM7 models, adding a new 54.10S (bent to 53 degrees) gap and 56.08M (bent to 57 degrees) sand wedges to go along with his 62.08L (bent to 61 degrees) lob. 

He finished T-40 after opening with a 3-under par 69.

European Tour: Titleist was the overwhelming golf ball choice at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship with 113 players (67% of the field of 168) trusting a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball. That's nearly 5 times the nearest competitor with 23 players (14%) and more than all competitors combined.

LPGA TOUR: Titleist was the overwhelming golf ball choice at Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open with 110 players (83% of the field of 132) trusting a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball. That's more than 18 times the nearest competitor with 6 players (5%) and more than all competitors combined.

PGA TOUR Champions: Titleist was the overwhelming golf ball choice at Pure Insurance Championship with 58 players (74% of the field of 78) trusting a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball. That's more than 18 times the nearest competitor with 10 players (13%) and more than all competitors combined.

Asia: Titleist was the overwhelming golf ball choice at the Panasonic Open with 84 players (64% of the field of 132) trusting a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball. That's more than three times the nearest competitor with 23 players (17%) and more than all competitors combined.

South Africa: Titleist was the overwhelming golf ball choice at the Vodacom Origins Humewood with 99 players (82% of the field of 121) trusting a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball. That's more than 5 times the nearest competitor with 20 players (17%) and more than all competitors combined.
